HOST Spruce Up Your Store Challenge: Categories & Location

(Okay, I know I said we would be covering tags today, however, I need to postpone that for a bit due to personal reasons. I'll try to get back on track next week)

Today's challenge is short and sweet: I want you to take a good look at your Categories (or what Etsy calls Sections) and your location information.

Let's start with the Location.
Sounds like a no-brainer. You put in your city, your state, or your country, right? Right... and wrong. I started that way too. Then I was told by numerous people to add more local cities to my location box so I could be picked up in the "local" searches. So I added a few places that are nearby. I can ship to them fairly quickly (Did you know that it takes me 2 days to ship either across town or to a city 1-1 1/2 hrs away?). So, this is something you should think about adding as well. What big cities are nearest to you? Go ahead and add them. If it doesn't work out for you, after a few months you can always change it!

Moving on to Sections.
If you are like me, your items fall into certain "categories" fairly easily. I sell tea, so I have black tea, green tea, tea blends, etc. I could also separate the categories by the amount I offer, if I offered different sized bags. Section titles are picked up by SEO on a regular website, so I would think that on Etsy they would also be key players in the SEO game. Think about what you want them to be. Divide your items into groups and make the section titles descriptive.

Share with us what you had before and what you changed them too. If you need help, let us know.

Also - how are your Google Analytics going this week? Any changes yet?

Hay, thanks for that... I hadn't really thought to put in the LARGER cities near me. OFF to do something about that!

Google stats comparing last week to this week:

* 185 Visits
Previous: 123 (+50.41%)

* 512 Pageviews
Previous: 272 (+88.24%)

* 2.77 Pages/Visit
Previous: 2.21 (+25.15%)

* 52.43% Bounce Rate
Previous: 60.16% (-12.85%)

* 00:03:43 Avg. Time on Site
Previous: 00:02:25 (+53.00%)

* 9.73% % New Visits
Previous: 11.38% (-14.52%)

Okay - so things are getting better. The people who find me are sticking around a bit longer. And I have more traffic than I did last week. However, my new visitors has gone down in comparison to last week. Ah well, at least I am still seeing improvements!
